For class, we went to a third grade class to talk about and discuss the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I learned a lot about the topic that I did not know before. The destruction that occurred from the bomb was a lot worse than what I thought it was. I never knew that all those people died from the bomb and that it caused so much damage on the cities. One thing we learned about from the third graders was the story of Sadako. It was a story about a little girl who got affected by the radiation from the bomb. She thought that if she could fold one thousand paper cranes, she would be healed and she would get better. So she folded the paper cranes but she still died. I thought that this story was interesting because there were obviously many kids who got affected by the radiation, and this story shows how the kids would deal with what has happened to them.
Peace One Day:
The film Peace One Day is a project that was the envisioned by the British filmmaker Jeremy Gilly. Gilly founded the day on September 21, 1999, and ever since, the day has been synonymous with peace. His aim was to make a day with total cease fire around the world. In 2001 Mr. Gilly achieved his goal when the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted the idea.
Videos:
1. The explanation by Mr. Gilly about the idea of Peace Day.
2. Many athletes such as David Beckam have come to celebrate and promote this remarkable day.

This is the destruction of Hiroshima after the Atomic bomb was dropped.
Another reason why we went to the third graders was to talk about peace because peace day was very close to when we went to see them. I felt that going to the third graders helped us to try and make a more peaceful environment. This is because in our school, the elementary, middle, and high school are all secluded from each other, which makes it difficult to talk to someone in elementary for example. So going to the third graders was a step forward in making our community more united and more peaceful.
